TASSP Offers Its Membership

The Texas Association of Secondary School Principals is the only education organization in Texas that serves exclusively a cross-section of educational leaders from secondary school campuses.  Its mission is to give a voice to secondary school administrators and to enhance their ability to provide vital leadership for their communities of learning.

Legal/Administrative Assistance
TASSP offers it members assistance in dealing with the issues that arise through the complex work of the school administrator.  When indicated, members are provided legal assistance via telephone conferencing. In addition, a professional liability insurance policy reimburses qualified attorney fees up to $15,000, and pays civil judgments up to $1,000,000 in defined cases.  Note that criminal sexual assault/sexual misconduct allegations have limited coverage.

Legal/Administrative Assistance
Members receive the TASSP News Highlights and the Texas Study of Secondary Education.  News Highlights is published five times a year and includes news, features and events of interest to TASSP members.  The Association's professional journal, the Texas Study of Secondary Education, is published in the fall and in the spring.  Each issue focuses on topics of interest to secondary school administrators.  Authors include both state and nationally-recognized experts. TASSP Legislative Updates provides concise, up-to-the minute reports.

Networking
TASSP provides formal and informal networking opportunities for members at conferences and through regional events.

Professional Development Opportunities
TASSP, approved by the State Board for Educator Certification, provides professional development that serves as earned credit hours for preparation, certification, assessment and professional growth.  The conferences are designed to match the skill level and interest of school administrators throughout their professional career.  Each conference blends nationally known speakers with distinguished educators to lead the training.

Legislative Voice
TASSP has an established history as an advocate for improving student achievement and providing safe schools for students and educators. TASSP works actively both during the legislative session and in the interim year to support legislation that strengthens the role of the principal as the instructional leader and campus-level decision-maker.  TASSP members are represented at the state level by the TASSP Legislative Committee which has a member from each of the twenty regional service centers.  TASSP also employs a legislative consultant.

Affiliations & Partnerships
TASSP has an on-going relationship with the State Board of Education, the Texas Education Agency, the State Board for Educator Certification, the Texas Association of School Boards, the Texas Association of School Administrators, the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association, the University Interscholastic League, Education Service Centers and other state associations and agencies interested in education.  These vital relationships provide TASSP the vehicle to represent its membership with a unified and forceful voice.

Student Organizations
TASSP sponsors two outstanding student organizations:  the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) and the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE).
